It seemed like a good idea but…
So I hooked up the speakers near my head, put on the modded MindWave and went to sleep. As seems to be the norm for me, I didn’t start dreaming until around 5 am. The sound file that is triggered is a recording of my wife saying “Tom you are dreaming, take control”. Well when I started dreaming and the sound file was played the shock of hearing she who must be obeyed was so startling that it instantly woke me up with absolutely no memory of the dream and my heart racing. Maybe a simple chime sound would work better.

He he! I have to keep my volume below 10% or risk waking my better half…
Help yourself to the tracks that I cut – you should find one that you like. They start quietly so as to not wake you and get progressively louder so you don’t miss them.
Lol that’s hilarious dude! I hear ya on the wife-to-be-obeyed thing, but doesn’t most research show that sound is the least effective method to induce? Still I suppose it’s easier than building your own NovaDreamer device, and worth experimenting with.
I will write a new plug-in interface for the output, so instead of just playing audio tracks, it could also flash the computer screen, activate a USB light or anything like that.
Dement & Wolpert found in 1958 that sounds, lights, or tactile sensations can become incorporated into an ongoing dream. LaBerge did the research into the flashing light cues and Monroe found some interesting effects from sound while investigating the ability to learn during sleep.
I have personally had the most luck with the audio tracks played during REM sleep and at times even when just streaming the vocal trance channel on DI.FM all night. I believe that it is just a matter of mixing the right track.
Furthermore, since the sudden introduction of a new stimulus tends to wake one up, as can be seen here, perhaps the key is in playing a simple trance loop with a steady beat all night and then dropping in some vocal tracks during REM sleep.
And thus the need for halophones will arise so as not to disturb those who must be obeyed. 😉
