2015-03-12 – first zeo test

so my experience was very nice last night…. i have to take back everything I said about your music! it was just fine… running the other music in the back ground worked great, when yours came on I stayed asleep but I was aware I was listening to the music and thought it was not bad. I enjoyed it….. I don’t remember my dreams or anything but it was a good first step…. it was comfortable…. the electrodes seemed to have slipped down and I took off the headset when I was awake at the end of the music

I dusted off my LightStone and set out on a new quest to detect the dream state from the heartbeat. The heart rate variability (HRV) channel sometimes creates castle-like patterns during deep sleep like in the printout below:

I woke up at 0308 when the electrode gel dried up and triggered a string of false positives from the OpenEEG channel. I stayed up for 30 minutes for some Choline and Galantamine and was plagued by numerous false awakenings over the next 3 hours. I also tried out a EV-806A tENS unit at 40 Hz on Fp1 and Fp2 for a few minutes before sleep.

The BPM channel (grey) sometimes climbs of its own accord – that might be the first place to start looking:

Effects of Supplements on Eye Movement at 0135
Thanks to neuralswarm from DreamViews I now have some Choline and Galantamine to test with. I took one of each just before sleep and recorded some nice patterns within the hour during which the audio tracks triggered. The dreams were very technical in nature and I was aware of heightened electrical activity in sections of two-dimensional grids in the frontal lobe.

Audio Tracks During REM Sleep
Four tracks played within six minutes: two of the tracks can be seen in the featured minute and I distinctly remember when the second one played. The rush from knowing that the world around me was a dream can clearly be seen in the seconds that followed. I tried to control my eye movements for the first time, but the effect I was hoping for did not make it across.

Another track played in the morning and woke me up during REM sleep, feeling very refreshed.

Wake Initiated Lucid Dream
I went to bed very late and started dreaming exactly ten minutes after I lay down. The track played a minute into the dream which continued for another 3 minutes. 13 blinks can be seen in the minute above before the track played.

Preparation: chewed a few Calea leaves four hours earlier.

Rapid Eye Movement Chart Lucid Dream
The audio track played seven minutes into the dream and abruptly ended the rapid eye movements.

Preparation: smoked and chewed a few Calea leaves.

REM Sleep with Calea Zacatechichi
Around six rapid eye movements can be seen after the vibrations. This is one of only two 30-second REM phases recorded during the night.

Preparation: added boiling water to a cup with a teaspoon of Calea leaves and let it soak until cool.

I have had great success with the tea inducing long, vivid and lucid dreams in the past, so I will have to try again soon.

REM Sleep with Mugwort
The track interrupted the rapid eye movements after which the dream continued for another two minutes, although I have no memory of it.

Preparation: boiled two tablespoons of Mugwort in two cups of water for 10 minutes until half a cup was left.

2011-10-24 – Insomnia

Insomnia
I drank an entire energy drink in the evening. I have not had one in many years and could not sleep as a result. The FM reading, which usually has the heartbeat averaging at around 300, can be seen idling between 600 and 800 in the minute above.
