The INSPEC can now look for faces and only looks for eye movements within the area of a face, nuking a whole host of false positives from sleep artifacts like breathing. Sleep talking still gets past it – too shy to post a clip of that, but I figure if you are sleep talking there is a good chance you are dreaming and the inhibition of motor neurons from REM atonia just isn’t working around the mouth muscles.
The video above shows some eye movements at 4 am with the algorithm looking for a face multiple times a second. In order for the facial algorithm to work, I have to bend the “neck” of the device so it can see my face in portrait mode. The flexible tripod works perfectly for that.
I sometimes feel guilty about how hard the INSPEC has to work all night, but I am making it in hope of spreading lucidity, so at least it is for a worthy cause.
hi, thanks for all the work done! great job and thanks for sharing this.
can you implement this on the lucid scribe soft : face recon? thanks
Sure thing. I will see what I can do with OpenCV if I can find some time.
Thanks Paul! that would be great 😉
Do you continue to sleep with your system?
regards
Sure. Yes, I am still sleeping with and working on the system… been distracted with info-sec work, but hope to dive in again soon.
Congrats on the LD the other night! Don’t worry – I can’t see the camera; I saw your thread on the attrape-songes forum. 😀
Cool! are you an attrape-songes member?
Do you lucid dream with your program? do you use only song?
For my part, i use an arduino with a vibrator and a NeoPixel Stick…
regards
I’m not a member. I try to ld with it, or right after it wakes me from a dream. I use sound and LEDs. I also read about the fan with water spray, pretty cool!
“I’m not a member.” Wait what? You’re an admin on the site, no? http://www.attrape-songes.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2135
Wait, is the “Paul” on that forum not you!? XD
Found out about the site this morning (from the mention above), and I’ve been reading through hundreds of posts there, thinking the “Paul” user was you this whole time!
You both have “Paul” in your names, you both have tinkered with devices and software for lucid-dream inductions (for years), you both have the dream of bringing lucid-dreaming to the masses — I thought for sure it was you!
Well now I must go back and reinterpret all of those threads, where I wondered why you didn’t promote your Lucid Scribe software more. ^_^
(By the way, that forum has a lot of interesting threads with device trials and experiments! It’s unfortunate I have to use Google Translate to read it, but it’s been worth it for the treasure trove of rare experimental data available from it.)
Hi Julien,
I added it to the Windows version. Please give it a test and let me know how it goes:

Bon courage!
Thanks paul for your work. I will test this today…Amazing 😉
Hi paul! it is possible that you compile your standalone python script with program like this : https://anthony-tuininga.github.io/cx_Freeze/
thanks
Hi Julien. I don’t think that will work – the inspect runs on different hardware than the raspi.
